Maryland

Reports per 100,000 population: 667.7
Identity theft reports per 100,000: 95.5
Total amount of financial fraud reports: 39,582

A great deal of financial fraud reports in Maryland in 2013 were related to credit card fraud. The state also received a lot of identity theft reports.

California

Reports per 100,000 population: 629.4
Identity theft reports per 100,000: 105.4
Total amount of financial fraud reports: 241,274

Over 40,000 reports of identity theft were made in 2013—more than any other state. Aside from identity theft, there were also a lot of reports made regarding debt collection.

Arizona

Reports per 100,000 population: 600.0
Identity theft reports per 100,000: 91.2
Total amount of financial fraud reports: 39,757

In 2013, financial fraud cost Arizona residents more than $30 million in total, among the most throughout the country.

New Jersey

Reports per 100,000 population: 595.3
Identity theft reports per 100,000: 80.6
Total amount of financial fraud reports: 52,977

Some of the highest credit card debt belonged to residents in New Jersey as of 2013, making them more vulnerable to various cases of financial fraud. 

Texas

Reports per 100,000 population: 592.2
Identity theft reports per 100,000: 88.0
Total amount of financial fraud reports: 156,611

Some of the financial fraud reports made in 2013 included car-related complaints, including misrepresentation and auto loan issues.
